My Friend The Mask

Hidden behind the mask,
And the world outside.
It’s a false security
To think I can hide.
Just like me,
It is not perfect.
But like a good friend
It tries to protect.
God in His wisdom
Has made us friends.
We work together
To be a defense.
Thank You, God,
For my friend The Mask.
Thank You for allowing it
To perform its task.

Walking Through Your Pages

Walking through Your pages,
I see
Why God says to trust you
And call you family.
You bring wisdom.
You bring knowledge.
You bring understanding.
You bring so much more
Than I could imagine.
How powerful is your influence.
How influential is your power.
You reveal, expose, and unveil
All that has evil intention against.
Flattery doesn’t get past you.
Help me to walk with you
As often as God allows.
Help me to pay attention…
And listen.
Help me to always trust
What God gives you for me.
Help me to always trust
Your best for me.

A Wise, Understanding Family

Wisdom, you are my sister.
God has said we’re family.
I am to trust your words.
I am to trust your whispers.
I am to heed your shoutings.
I am to seek and trust you.

Understanding,
You are my kinswoman.
I am to follow your lead.
I am to trust you to keep me.
I am to accept you as family.
Because in God’s eyes
You are! ❤

Wise understanding,
Oh how I need you,
To keep me from flattery,
To keep me from self destruction,
To keep me from falling into a snare,
Bound for hell.

Lord, I seek. I call on.
And I trust through your faith
In wisdom, understanding.
We are all one family.
Your family.

Discretion, A Mutual Friend

Discretion,
You and I have been friends
Many times over.
I thank God for being our
Mutual Friend.
He is wise to tell me to choose.
He tells me to choose you
Is to choose wisdom.
Thank you for being
A faithful companion.
Thank you for helping me
Keep my mind on Him.
Thank you for helping
To escape my folly.
Thank you for clarifying
What I can and cannot trust.
Thank you for not wanting
To make a mockery of me,
For not shaming me in my own guilt,
As I so rightly deserve.
Thank you for preserving me for Him.
Thank you for teaching me
What’s right.
Thank you for helping me to honor
our Mutual Friend.

Let’s Pursue One Another

Wisdom, let’s pursue one another.
I need your instruction,
And you need my obedience.
I need your knowledge,
And you need my heart.
I need your understanding,
And you need me to attend you.
I need you to establish me,
And you need me to exalt you.
I need you to preserve me,
And you need me to keep you.
I need you to lead my paths.
You need me to keep looking straight ahead.
I need your grace and your glory.
You need me to honor God’s word.
His promises mean so much to me,
And you mean so much to Him.
He tells me so much about you,
And promises so much value.
Help me to receive the good
In trusting His word.
Help me to honor HIm
In trusting you.
Wisdom, knowledge, understanding,
Let’s pursue one another.

Your Word Awaits Me

Your letter awaits me
And my weary eyes
To freshen and renew
My troubled mind.
Your wisdom awaits me
And comes with discretion.
Your knowledge and discernment
Will teach me a lesson.
Your warning awaits me
To lovingly plead,
“When the Spirit whispers,
Please be sure to heed.”
Your comfort awaits me
To strengthen and cheer.
Your prayers and parables
Are so dear.
Your authority awaits me
To teach me to quickly obey.
You want to protect me,
And by leading all the way.
Your heaven awaits me
With what You’ve prepared.
I await the day
When I’m finally there.

Emphasized Treasure

Lord, today You have emphasized treasure
That You are…
That You share…
That You hide…
That You openly display…
And that You so lovingly want for us.
Help me to see,
To find,
To enjoy,
To appreciate,
To thank You for,
To share,
And to treasure
You and ALL of Your treasures.
You tell us there is richness
In full assurance of understanding.
May I grow more and more
Every day in understanding
And wisdom and knowledge,
That I may know,
And know I know!
I love You, Lord!

Prophets Pen and Paper

Pen and Paper… what friends of mine,
Yet prophets like Moses and Paul.
Despite what could be read between the lines,
They can create works of art.
Though they have horrible and shameful confessions of historical stature,
They can make a mew and beautiful character
Out of the very villain so guilty.
They can explain the nature of what created the evil
And in the same message convey the transformation
Of the demon into an angel.
God’s beauty and magnitude of divine power
Boldly shouts from the pages.
The printed work joyfully embraces its reader.
And the prophets called Pen and Paper
Are serving God with the same holiness
As with love and wisdom in the Holy Bible.
God’s right hand made great warriors
Of even the simplest tools… pen and paper,
Just as He had done with the murderers… Moses and Paul,
Who were later known as great prophets.
Imagine what He can do with you and me,
If we will just believe and let Him.

Growing Up In the Projects

Growing up in the projects was a challenging matter of surviving,
And still have morals and a heart.
First, you must learn to adapt to the ways you observe and learn.
You have to accept the fact that the reality is you must live here,
And pray you’ll still be alive when and if you can move.
You have to deal with people who are against you,
People who love you but still get you into trouble,
And some people who are just plain troublemakers.
You also have to evaluate for yourself
When it is necessary to break the law,
And when it is important to follow it.
You must learn how to survive and help others,
Along the way and after you make it
Out of the same place that used to hurt you.
Once you are out of the projects,
The most important survival key is for you to decide
If you want to linger on the past,
And be depressed and bitter for the rest of your life,
Or to look at the fact you made it out
And no one but you can send you back,
Unless you let yourself go and give up.

God Grants… And Then

God grants a heart

And then permits a love.

But before it’s allowed to be,

It must be given up.

God grants a wish

And then a kiss is given.

But before it can be remembered,

It must never be lived.

God grants a man

And then woman has companionship.

But before there can be intimacy,

They can not even taste a lip.

God grants wisdom

And then love as a sweet reward.

But before it can be a paradise,

It has to be utterly destroyed.

Fear Belongs To God

Fear in the midst of storms…
God completely understands.
He is a caring and loving God
despite all that He commands.
He has the power
to control the winds and rain,
but He knows that at times
we’re doing all we can to stay sane.
He’s not so insensitive
as many make Him out to be.
He protects His children
and wants them happy,
yet He knows fear will rule us
and tempt us to run away.
Sometimes He’ll strengthen us,
sometimes actually lead us away!
Fear is God’s beginning of knowledge,
wisdom is in having fear.
The challenge is to cling to Him
and know He’s always near.

Keeping Christ First

Keeping Christ first
is the key to everything.
For in following Him,
obedience it will bring.
So many challenges
of this world will arise.
The wisdom hard to find
is in keeping our eyes on Christ.
People are the most challenging.
Do we shun or reach?
Just follow Christ.
Our testimony will preach.
In the end it is Christ
we are to trust and obey.
Seeking to please Him
in every way.

Passing Angels and Warriors

Moments of hardship arise,
and so does our God.
He sends His warriors
and angels abroad.
They minister and encourage,
and maybe even provide
a token of God’s love
by being at our side.
Whether in sweet fellowship
with a dear old soul,
or comforting companionship
with one not quite whole.
Whether giving advice
greatly sought,
or allowing wisdom
to be taught.
They take their charge
and serve God well,
leaving such a strong testimony
to tell.

Whispers Loud and Clear

Seeking for You, to hear from You,
life fights to clog my mind.
If it weren’t for Your rescue,
I would journey blind.
Stress seems to contradict
all that lies in Your word.
The world screams so loud.
You can barely be heard.
But the Holy Spirit
whispers so loud and clear.
His loving ways
allow me to hear.
Comfort, peace, protection
in a God who is my friend.
Just hang on, Gail,
this too shall end.

This Covenant

Lord, what about this covenant You keep whispering in my ear?
What is it You want to make new? between You and me? and why?
Am I falling beneath the mark?
Do I need saving? – Always.
Am I letting You down?
Do I need protection?
I wave the white flag. I absolutely do.
I surrender my strength to Your will…
my strife to Your strategy…
my sanity to Your peace.
This battle is beyond me.
I cannot fight it alone, I struggle just to fight.
You touch this soldier and say, “Go home.”
You want me to trust that You are aware, in charge, and on guard.
Your action speaks louder than my words.
So what is it? As You are once again on this subject?
Have I matured? Do I need to grow more?
Is it time? Do I need to be prepared?
Am I capable? I want to be.
A covenant is an agreement, a vow, a promise,
to be faithful to a commitment,
to trusting no matter what happens.
I want to hide in the shadow of Your wings.
I want to hold You yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
Forever, I want to stand beside You,
and to have You by my side.
If this covenant is to enter another,
what are You asking of me?
What are You asking of them?
How can it not mar what is?
What exactly is what stands?
How do You see things?
How do You want things?
What do You desire?
You deserve so much,
far more than I’ve ever given You,
far more than I can,
yet I still cherish every moment
that I can praise Your Holy name!
Lifting up Holy hands to a Holy and righteous God.
I cherish just being with You.
You are everything to me.
I wait, Lord, on You
to show what this covenant is
that You want to make anew.
It is between You and I,
so I will wait for Your answer.
Love You… Amen.
