Outside of the Gate

Lock me in a cellar room.
Take away the key.
Forever outside the gate,
I could never be free.

Inside I am safe from pain.
I cannot learn to care.
Love will never meet me there.
The heartache I will not bear.

I cannot feel the loving touch
Of one who cares for me.
And I shall be too weak
To ever break free.

So please, shut the gate.
Make sure that it is locked.
For in this place I’m happy.
And on the outside, I am not.
