1 Samuel 18:13-14/Proverbs 16:7

A powerful message of Proverbs 16:7
is shown in David and Saul.
David’s wise behavior
made Saul’s pride fall.
Fear replaced vengeance
and prevented ill will.
The more wisely David behaved
the more frozen Saul stood still.
This wise behavior
also pleased the heart of God.
Though Saul sought to slay David,
to allow him, God would not.
It is true what God says.
Proverbs 16:7 is very wise.
Even the Philistines were at peace
though David killed Goliath before their eyes.

Time and Time Again

Time and time again,
You give so much to us.
Instead of giving praise,
we cry, “You are so unjust.”
Time and time again,
we whine for what we want.
We reject You for something else
that we merely use to flaunt.
Time and time again,
You must punish us with
consequences we created
with our fleshly sin.
Time and time again,
we cry for You to rescue.
We need salvation
from what we asked of You.
Time and time again,
we come to see Your heart.
Though we can be so cruel,
You hate for us to be apart.

Good Courage & Strength

Good courage
is what God wants from us,
to give Him strength
to show He’s just.
If we waiver and cower
or fail to even try,
then we make our testimony
of His strength a lie.
May I show the world
what an awesome God You are.
Your strength and courage
have helped me come so far.
You are worthy, oh God,
of praise and glory.
May my courage and strength
tell of Your amazing story.

Moments Together

Crying among your people,

we strive to know each other

so that we may learn of You

through loving and serving one another.

Studies, readings, creative ways

to share and teach of You.

What tears, what laughter.

You are keeping us true.

Praise You deserve and want.

Praise we want to give.

Because of what You gave,

we are able to live.

CHANGING

Putting off the old.
Putting on the new.
This is the new road.
This is what to do.
Flavor the salt.
Shine the light.
Light the candle
to light the night.
Walking away.
Walking to.
Changing for good.
Changing for you.

Follow Every Eternal Day

Follow me to a place and to a man.
He waits with love and an opened hand.
Regardless of how you think or feel,
His unconditional love for you is real.
Follow me in learning of Him.
All His ways… blessings, every one of them.
Loving, kind, protective, and forgiving,
He longs to give you a life worth living.
All knowing and always present,
He is a God who will never be absent.
Open your eyes, ears, heart, and mind.
He has made you to be one of a kind.
Follow His lead. Follow His way.
You will cherish every eternal day.

What Have I Come To?

Unable to communicate,
unable to do,
seeking for my purpose,
what have I come to?
That which I know
does nothing I see.
That I do
offends and disagrees.
That which others want
is not your desire,
and if it is,
I’m obviously fired.
Hanging on
to hanging in,
I wonder if
I’ll glorify you again.

Chances Are

If I grew
to care for you,
chances are – you’d leave.
And if I tried
not to hide,
chances are – I’d bleed.
If I dared
to let you share,
chances are – I’d lose.
And if I wished
it’s me you missed,
chances are – no use.
If you wonder
if I ponder,
chances are – I do.
And if you pray
for a way,
chances are – I love you.

Floating Nest

Moanings and groanings,
I hear all around me.
The flock is restless.
Their sighs have found me.
The unknown day
of opening the door
seems so far away
when we’ve found no shore.
Our lingering spirits
threaten to doubt
all that God has promised
to bring us out.
As our prayers are lifted,
a calming arrives.
His Faithful Spirit
lovingly revives.
The flock is comforted
and finds sweet rest
knowing that God provided
this floating nest.

Pursuit of Faithfulness

Long ago, You and I met.
You pursued my wondering heart.
You saw something in me I didn’t.
Something You saw from the start.
It was You in me,
Yet I had never known Your presence.
You would make yourself known.
I would fall in love with Your essence.
Growing together along the way,
It was You who was leading me,
Teaching me so much about You
And how You desired for things to be.
More and more Your vision
Would become my very own.
I have never regretted
You melting my heart of stone.
Each day holds something new
To reassure me of my place
Within Your faithful love
And Your tender embrace.

Fine Lines

These fine lines that separate me and You,
impose on being free to confide.
Those evil words having to enter Your ears
leave my pen tongue tied.
So many reasons not to revisit.
So many reasons I have no choice.
The paths of yore are so dark and evil.
You tell me to listen for Your voice.
Destructive thoughts that seem to persuade
continue to grip so tight.
The father of confusion suggests, “Doubt.”
But You clearly state, “Fight!”
How do I address such ugly matters
with a Holy and Reverent God?
How can I be so sure my memories
are the source for the problems I’ve got?
Approaching the edge, I realize
I’ve already crossed.
I’m just trying to leave a trail
so I won’t get lost.
Lovingly rebuking me, “That’s not Faith,”
You encourage me to go on.
Faith is not faith
unless it’s You I am counting on.
Step by step,
I’m walking with You.
Whatever lies ahead,
You will see me through.

You Don’t Say

Days come and go.
Events occur and pass.
Many questions go unanswered
because they’re never asked.
The clouds are gazed upon.
The days are far spent.
No words are heard in the wind,
though I pause to listen.
Are You trying to speak?
Are You trying to convey?
Am I genuinely focused?
Am I waiting to obey?
Do I trust Your silence?
Do I trust Your way?
When You only ask for faith,
do I trust what You don’t say?

Repented and Turned

So young and innocent, she has no clue.
What others will teach, she will do.
Right or wrong, pure or filth.
They pass on the pleasure that brings guilt.
No examples to show otherwise.
Every one is good in their own eyes
The sins are handed down to repeat.
She had not heard of who she’d meet.
Knelt at the altar to wait for someone else,
She is approached and told of a saving help.
Her eyes were opened, her heart broken
To hear of the love and tragedy spoken.
Jesus had came and died for her.
He loved her in spite of her.
Revealing her false innocence and wicked ways,
He teaches truth and the importance to obey.
Falling in love and falling in line,
He lifts her pen and has her write.
It will help her grow. It will help her learn.
She has repented. She has turned.

Yours With Affection

Alone in this quietness with You,
there’s something valuable about this peace.
I feel like I have found favor with You
for the chaos of this world to cease.
Oh it still goes on
somewhere out there.
But You have instructed me
it’s Your burden to bear.
My responsibility is to listen to You.
You have something to say.
I have prepared You an altar
here where I pray.
As the stillness allows me
to know You are God,
I see You lay aside
Your staff and rod.
You let me know You do not need
tools of correction.
When my heart is Yours,
You hold me with affection.

Your Instruction, His Lesson

Off on a mountain top,
somewhere alone with You.
He is seeking Your wisdom
and Your guidance too.
He has forsaken all others
to enter Your presence.
He seeks Your instruction
to prepare His lesson.
His view is prepared
by Your majestic hand.
There is something in creation
that will cause him to understand.
Then at times, he’ll go inside
and You will shut the door.
There in the darkness
He will grow even more.
When You are ready
and deem he is too,
You will send him forth
to share more of You.
