Distant Stranger

A distant stranger,
in and out,
never knowing
what a family’s all about.

Living on the edge,
taking life short.
Forget understanding,
there’s nothing of the sort.

In his cowboy boots
and beard of age,
he reads the book,
but tears the page.

Trying to settle down,
tired of the danger.
This is a friend of mine,
a distant stranger.
