Shade of Hope

Tick, tock, tick.
The clock ticks on.
Any minute
My sleep will be gone.
Ray by ray,
The sun brings the day.
It comes to take
My rest away.
Hour by hour,
Minute by minute.
My day won’t have time
For a nap in it.
Shade by shade,
The shadow of the night,
Brings me hope
That I’ll be out like a light.

Your Word Awaits Me

Your letter awaits me
And my weary eyes
To freshen and renew
My troubled mind.
Your wisdom awaits me
And comes with discretion.
Your knowledge and discernment
Will teach me a lesson.
Your warning awaits me
To lovingly plead,
“When the Spirit whispers,
Please be sure to heed.”
Your comfort awaits me
To strengthen and cheer.
Your prayers and parables
Are so dear.
Your authority awaits me
To teach me to quickly obey.
You want to protect me,
And by leading all the way.
Your heaven awaits me
With what You’ve prepared.
I await the day
When I’m finally there.

There Is A Child

There was a God and there was a girl.
He protected her from so much of her world.
It would take a lot of time for her to realize
With all she experienced with her innocent eyes.
For so long, all she knew was terror and fear.
Death, filth, and violence were always near.
But then her soul had opened to Christ,
And He would lead her the rest of her life.
When the time came to take a look back,
She would see God’s presence she never lacked.
She saw she was protected from so much
By a God who gave her so much love.
She was learning how to love Him too,
And praise Him with all His glory due.
There is a God and there is a child.
A woman learned she was His all the while.

The Gift of Forgetting

The gift of forgetting.
Only You could provide such mercy.
Such grace.
Such love.
Only You could understand
The kindness of that gift.
Only You could understand the contents
And the package
Holding on
Until that sweet release of
“NO MORE.”
Thank You for the many gifts
You save me from,
Release me from,
Protect me from,
Including myself,
Especially myself.
Thank You for renewing my mind…
Daily.
Thank You for hiding You
In my heart.
No matter what comes or goes,
I have given myself to You forever!
I’m Yours!

God Has Made My Form

Creep by creep, crawl by crawl.
The earth is such a trek.
Craggy rocks and thorny bushes
Threaten to make me wreck.
Danger appears, sounds terrify.
I hide within my shell.
I’m just a sluggish sea turtle.
I do not fight too well.
Alas the water, my safety net.
I swim within the depth.
A whole other world to battle
With every creature met.
Yet there is a blessed gift
I still have on my side.
God has made my form.
In His hand I do abide.

We Have Yet To Understand

Christmas falls like snow in the air
On a sunny and warm day.
Things are as expected,
God will have His way.
He needs no permission of the calendar,
Nor direction from the sun.
He knows how to do mysterious wonders.
He smiles for the fun.
The air turns cold as night arrives,
And He blankets the earth with snow.
He loves the delight in the child’s eye.
He creates a tender glow.
We recognize Your power, Lord.
Our seasons are in Your hand.
For everything we think we know,
We have yet to understand.

Weathering Life

Smoky winds are hints
To what’s going on inside.
They don’t give the details,
But they won’t let you hide.
Foggy hills and mountains
Beautify the view,
But foggy valleys and roads
Obstruct the view.
Storm clouds roll in.
Storm clouds roll out.
You can’t be certain of their intentions.
They only make you doubt.
God creates wondrous works
To bless and to test.
May you find comfort and peace
In His sweet rest.
