Dark Faith

What a wall of darkness
You present as my path.
I pause to pray,
“Is this guidance or wrath?”
Urged in Your peace,
I slowly go through.
I’m afraid of this scene,
but I want to follow You.
You tell me to trust Your hands
holding back the sea.
You provide a fire light at night,
and a cloud by day to shade me.
This won’t be a quick run.
This won’t be a mad dash.
This will be a journey of faith
just before our enemies clash.
Coming out of the waves,
I join You on Your shore.
I watch as my enemy
will be no more.
Closing the wall of darkness,
You throw my enemy in the depth.
While I am in Your arms,
he has met his death.

A Leg in the Journey

LORD, this journey never seems to end.
Nothing ever seems to stop.
There is no break,
no pause,
no catching one’s breath.
Yet there is so much glory
for so many blessings
that seem hidden
in the fog.
Thank You for being on this journey
with me.
No one ever compares to You.
You’re the only one
who never leaves.
You’re the only one
who can’t,
or won’t.
I’ll take the reminder
of You
for my strength.

Besetting Foe (My Ugly Enemy)

You disgust me. I detest you.
The way you come at me
as if I want you.
The way you pursue me
as if I desire you.
The way you persist
as if I cannot resist.
You charge at me
from every possible source.
You think you will conquer me
with force.
But you are my enemy,
my foe I abhor.
I cannot tolerate you.
You are a foul odor!
You think I lust for you.
You think you tempt me.
But my God has empowered me
to rebuke you.
He has aligned Himself with me
and fights for me.
Your tactics to invade my dreams
only inflame my rage.
You have no attraction over me.
You are ugly and contempt.
Throw all of the junk of the world at me
as much as you want.
God is the only one I care to think on.
Trash my environment.
Trash my view.
But my soul is His
and always will be.
Temptation….
that’s what they call you.
But you are not tempting to me.
Just as you tempted my Savior,
you vie for me.
But with His strength,
I too will cling to God’s word.
Get thee behind me!
The cross is before me
every step of the way!

Unplugging Your Pen

I can’t do it, LORD.
I just can’t stop writing.
It’s like plugging my ears to You.
You are far too exciting!
You share Your secrets
And bless me with insight.
You help me bless others
And shine Your light.
Your words pour down
Like rain on my soul,
Sometimes rushing
Like waves that roll.
How dare I miss
One single Word.
How dare I not share
What I have heard.
Your words give life.
They’re what I breathe.
Without their presence,
My soul doth seethe.
Though doubts can challenge
My obedience to You,
I must write
And share more of You!

My Loved One’s Journey

Life that is waning, wasting away.
Nothing can be done to save the day.
A body betraying the soul within.
A spirit dying, just giving in.
Energy fading, abandoning the owner.
Depression conquering the weakened donor.
Words that fail and muscles that faint.
A ruthless trial for any saint.
Straining relationships, choking bonds,
stealing the will to carry on.
This is the journey my loved one is on,
and I must watch until they are gone.

God Loves You!

God has such an important message
Only He can get it through.
Don’t ignore Him when He speaks.
Listen to Him say, “I love you.”
Only you can love Him back.
Victory is your choice.
Eternal life and love are precious,
So listen for His voice.
You are His precious child.
Only you can make Him smile.
Under His wings of love all the while.

You Send Me What I Need

Me and You have been doing this a long time now,
Walking through this thing called life.
Before I even knew that I was alive,
You were already saving me from my strife.
You knew the things that would pull at me,
And the things I would cause myself.
Yet instead of throwing Your hands up,
You lovingly stretched them out to help.
You placed Your hedge about me
And only allowed that which brought gain.
Only to protect me and strengthen me,
Would You ever allow any pain.
Yet even in those troubled times
You were faithful to abide.
I may have felt loneliness,
But You were always by my side.
You’re the Savior who met me on my knees.
You’re the Savior who suffered on His own.
And as Your Father sent You Simon and angels,
You send me what I need to carry on.

Question of Identity

On a concrete slab
lies a question of identity.
Your family is called
and asked to come see.
Is that you on the table?
Have you O.D.’ed?
Have you caused the heart
of your family to bleed?
Is that you
there in the morgue?
Have you gone to live
with your Lord?
Only God knows
this very day
if that is you
that has gone away.

Miscommunicated Goodbye

Miscommunication is a powerful weapon,
a misfire of tongues
causing so much damage
that cannot be undone.
People try to relate to one another
while trying to be discrete.
What is intended to build up
can feel like defeat.
Secrets are hidden.
Secrets are kept.
Secrets are revealed.
Tears are wept.
Apologies are given.
Apologies are accepted.
Sabotage and ruin
are intercepted.
Deep in the soul
where secrets live and die,
there is a disconnect…
a permanent goodbye.

You Are Hope!

Hope is a mainstay…
is so often said.
Yet that is an understatement
to Your Holy Comfort.
Time and time again,
I myself thank You for hope.
That’s because YOU are hope.
Without You I cannot cope!
You are the very breath
that gives us each life.
Though we cannot see it,
it is how we are alive.
You are the faith,
for which the substance of things,
the evidence of things unseen,
are the very core of hope.
You are unseen,
and yet You are our hope…
our only hope…
our glorious hope!
Thank You for hope!
Thank You for YOU!

Your Marvelous Love

From the day we are born,
You call us unto You.
You whisper our name
and say, “I love you.”
You make it clearly known
that You have made us
for Your special purpose,
to glorify the name of Jesus.
Held in Your care,
we come to Your throne.
We marvel at the thought
that You’d make us Your own.
Reassured each moment
of Your unfailing love,
we long to be with You
in our home above.

2-6-15 Note to You

Lord God,
Thank You for being so personal,
for always being there for me.
Thank You for being the friend
everyone wishes they had
(and do if they give themselves to You).
Thank You for listening to
my ranting, venting, and complaining.
Thank You for whispering, speaking, and shouting to me.
Thank You for holding me
and emboldening me.
Thank You for helping me
get through each trying day.
And thank You for giving me strength
when it feels like I have none.
Thank You for putting up with
my crying, my whining, and my letting You down.
Thank You for forgiving, restoring, and rebuilding me…
to be faithful, strong, and obedient.
Thank You for loving me,
and for being You!

Floating Nest

Moanings and groanings,
I hear all around me.
The flock is restless.
Their sighs have found me.
The unknown day
of opening the door
seems so far away
when we’ve found no shore.
Our lingering spirits
threaten to doubt
all that God has promised
to bring us out.
As our prayers are lifted,
a calming arrives.
His Faithful Spirit
lovingly revives.
The flock is comforted
and finds sweet rest
knowing that God provided
this floating nest.

Pursuit of Faithfulness

Long ago, You and I met.
You pursued my wondering heart.
You saw something in me I didn’t.
Something You saw from the start.
It was You in me,
Yet I had never known Your presence.
You would make yourself known.
I would fall in love with Your essence.
Growing together along the way,
It was You who was leading me,
Teaching me so much about You
And how You desired for things to be.
More and more Your vision
Would become my very own.
I have never regretted
You melting my heart of stone.
Each day holds something new
To reassure me of my place
Within Your faithful love
And Your tender embrace.

Repented and Turned

So young and innocent, she has no clue.
What others will teach, she will do.
Right or wrong, pure or filth.
They pass on the pleasure that brings guilt.
No examples to show otherwise.
Every one is good in their own eyes
The sins are handed down to repeat.
She had not heard of who she’d meet.
Knelt at the altar to wait for someone else,
She is approached and told of a saving help.
Her eyes were opened, her heart broken
To hear of the love and tragedy spoken.
Jesus had came and died for her.
He loved her in spite of her.
Revealing her false innocence and wicked ways,
He teaches truth and the importance to obey.
Falling in love and falling in line,
He lifts her pen and has her write.
It will help her grow. It will help her learn.
She has repented. She has turned.
