Contrary

Why is it so easy to be contrary?
Why do I feel the need?
Why must my pride insist?
Why does my rebellion plead?
A strong foe…
my flesh is fierce.
My double-edged sword…
so eager to pierce.
Dangerous and cruel…
so thoughtless of others.
Failing to edify
my sisters and brothers.
Lord, guard my mouth
and renew my ways.
I release this rebellion
and choose to praise.
